Two in a Row

Maroon 5 is playing the night after John Mayer.  Back to back glorious-ness??  I'll take it, thank you very much.  San Diego is going to ROCK.

(although don't get me wrong.  Adam is no John....)

John

October 4, 2013
Chula Vista, California

Me.
Nate.
and
THIS guy.

I cannot believe we figured out a way to make it happen.  He's not playing in Utah this year, so I knew seeing him this tour would be a long shot.

We didn't snag amazing seats this go around, in fact we're probably going to sit back on the lawn to really save some cash, but who cares (ok, I do a little).

But we'll BE there.

(Insert Sue Heck screaming here).

KatyCat

I'm becoming a KatyCat.  I love Katy Perry's music!  Her voice is beautiful.  "Thinking of You", "Waking up in Vegas" and "Firework" are my favorites right now.

And she's dating John Mayer (don't break her heart, John!!), so now they are my favorite power couple.  They're gorgeous together.  And they've both sang in Ellen's bathroom.  :)

Why am I such a dork?  Kids, I'm sorry your mom (and your dad, usually) is a nerd.  What can you do though?  We're happy!

We are FINALLY all feeling better, phew!  That was a rough week.  Today I'm going to the Cheesecake Factory to eat Miso Salmon with my college roomie, Becky.  It's a tradition we do about 2-3 times a year, and it's the BEST!

That's it.  Short, random post today.

UPDATE:
So...Cameron came home from school and started singing "Firework" to himself.  I was SHOCKED...how on earth does Cam suddenly know the song I've become obsessed with?  Turns out they play it at his school assemblies!  So now he sits and listens to Katy Perry with me, haha!  He loves John, too.  Cam is my music buddy.

Dreams DO Come True!

I forgot to mention one small, minor detail about our trip to Nashville last summer.

My dreams DID come true.

First, he invited me on stage at the Ryman to back him up on "Half of My Heart".  I rocked it...

THEN, he was so impressed, that he invited me to be his date at the CMA's.  Nate was fine with it...John gave him some guitars and they had a jam session.  Plus, as you can see, my children's names were still around my neck, so please don't worry that I was thinking of running away with John.  It was just a fun evening on the red carpet.  John looked a little drugged up, but I promise he was good company!  It was definitely a highlight of our getaway that I can't believe I forgot to tell you about!!

Stadium of FIRE

That song has been stuck in my head for days!  Stadium of FIRE....

Last night Nate & I headed down to Provo, sans children.  A huge thank you to his mom for watching them on such short notice!  It was a much-needed date night.  We ate at Wendy's and since we had time to kill, we went for a little walk.  We ended up in front of Utah Valley hospital, and I remembered that my poor dad was doing a 24-hour in-house shift (there has to be an OB at the hospital on hand all the time).  So we got to meet up with him in the lobby and visit for a little while.  He had just began inducing a woman who had lost her baby.  Heartbreaking, I can't imagine going through labor and still having to deliver, knowing your baby wasn't alive.  He told me about the wonderful counselors and staff they have on hand to work with families in these situations.  The couple was visiting Utah from out of town, and I couldn't help but feel so grateful that they just happened to end up with the most understanding, kind, compassionate doctor in the world.

Then we headed back up to the Stadium and met up with my mom and my brother Bill & his family, who are in town from Washington DC.  Even though crowds stress me out, I was so excited to watch Fireworks and especially watch Carrie Underwood.  I watched her season of American Idol and obviously love her (who doesn't?).  I knew she'd be amazing live, but she completely blew me away.  Her voice is absolutely unreal.  She's so good.  SO GOOD.  She sang the Star-spangled Banner at the opening, and then had about an hour concert at the end before the fireworks.  Her last song was a medley of "Jesus Take the Wheel" and "How Great Thou Art".  It was beautiful.  I am more than happy to add her to my small, but substantial list of concerts I've now attended.  She's been on my 'to-attend' list for years, so I jumped at the chance when I heard she was playing for Stadium of Fire.  Nate & I can't wait to go to concerts all the time when we live near Nashville!!!

The fireworks were amazing as well.  I love the music they play along with the show.  It was hard to not get teary-eyed thinking about our freedoms and blessings we enjoy.  Today in Relief Society at church, I taught the lesson.  I decided to use a talk that President Benson gave back in 1984 about the Constitution.  It was really eye-opening for me to prepare and study for...it gave me a strong desire to begin a deeper study of our nation's history, specifically the Constitution.

Off to Nate's grandma's for a BBQ tonight.  Down to Salem to go hiking with my family tomorrow.  My parents are then taking Cameron to Glenwood ALL WEEK.  I'm not even going to know what to do with myself....!!!
