Doctrine & Covenants 84: 81-84: (similar verses can also be found in the Bible in Matthew 6)
"Therefore, take ye no thought for the morrow, for what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, or where-withal ye shall be clothed.
For, consider the lillies of the field, how they grow, they toil not, neither do they spin; and the kindoms of the world, in all their glory, are not arrayed like one of these.
For your Father, who is in heaven, knoweth that you have need of all these things.
Therefore, let the morrow take thought for the things of itself."
How beautiful is that? Nate & I have talks quite often about our future....especially him getting a job he loves, where we will live, how we will afford a house..... These are questions that are hard to see the concrete answers to right now. We have faith though. We have faith that the Lord will bless our little family. He will take care of our needs. As long as we make good choices, keep His commandments, remain humble, and live by faith.

A funny conversation in the car with Cam:
C: Hey Mom, can we get some french fries?
M: Not today, Honey.
C: Why not?
M: Well sometimes we can, but not today.
C: But I want some.
M: Well Cam, french fries cost money, and we don't have a lot of money right now.
C: Yes we do.
M: (laughing) Not really.
C: We do have money.
M: Well, we have some money, but we need to save some of it, okay?
C: Okay.

So on this chilly Winter afternoon, while Cam was snoozing on the sofa, I had some good girlie-bonding time with my Allie Jane. We put on some John Mayer and had some fun giggles. She decided to take her hesitant, wobbly, and precious first steps! (once again, good thing my camera is never more than a few feet away!!)
(Yeah, she stole Cam's binkie again....poor unsuspecting kid....)
On her way to maul over mom.

I feel so lucky to have seen that. First steps. I'm smiling.
You know what? Next to telling my child that I've been wrong, telling him that we could not afford something is the best lesson I've taught him.
I'm saying "him" because I've only had to deal with such situations thus far with Carter. But, I'm not afraid to tell kids that we cannot afford something or that we're sacrificing some part of our lives for something else.
We are an unusual family in our circle of friends.....we rarely eat out (once every 2 months).....we rarely indulge in other people's luxuries....for the sake of travel. It's our passion. And, for us, it works.
Regardless, I think a child can learn more any day of the week from "we can't" as opposed to "yes".
Carry on, sweet friend.
I can't believe she's walking!! Isaac asks for french fries on a daily basis.
Thanks for posting that message on your blog. Jenny and I have similar conversations about the future, and throughout them, the underlying tone is "where will we get the money." We as well are trying to live debt free (baby step #2) and we just need to put our trust in the Lord.
Well Hello. Thanks for your comment. I don't deserve the compliments, but I appreciate it. Your kids are sure darling too. I know the Obergs because my sister in law is best friends with jessica. I personally have never met Darin. How do you knoe the OHearn sisters? DO you live here in NS?
Wow. What a crazy small world it is. The Ohearn's are some of my very favorite people here. I am glad you found us. It's fun to see the connections from so far away.
I don't know much, but I am almost certain they live in Salt Lake. Maybe South Jordan-ish area. Sorry I am not much help. I hope you get in touch with them. I am sure they would like to see you and your family as well. You could always try leaving a comment on their bog, or look for Darin on facebook. Good luck.
