Half Marathon #5 DONE! Yup, another 13.1 miles done in 2014. Two weekends in a row!
This morning was the New Year's Revolution Run at the Olympic Oval. Instead of being a specific distance, this race was simply whatever you wanted to or could run in 5 hours. We had a nice group of RA members there, I think about 15 of us there.
I had never been to the Olympic Oval before. It's a cool facility! The track goes along the outer edge. Inside the track is the ice track for speed skating, and then inside that is the ice rink for hockey. The run started right at 8:00. Josh and I planned to stick together. For being as grood of friends as we are, we have actually never run a race together! Even at RA runs, we usually end up running with other people. Since this was 100% a training run and NOT for time, we just took it at a comfy pace and kept it completely fun and relaxed. It took us over three hours, but it was a PARTY!
So running on a track for 48 laps was tedious. Obviously. BUT the fun part was that you were always surrounded by people! We'd be running along, and then Robert Merriman or Susette or Monica or Monte would come up behind us and we'd run together for a bit. Monte actually spent a lot of his time running BACKWARDS to keep his muscles loose. That was entertaining. Never a dull moment!
It was fun getting to know Monica a little bit better! She is awesome! I also go to know Christy a lot better! She is a sweetheart, and I'm hoping I convinced her to run Ogden with me in May!! I didn't get to chat with my dear Janet very much because she and her daughter were rocking it with the speedy laps!
Our race bibs had timing chips on them that would count our laps for us. They had a big table set up with snacks and drinks, and you could check your lap count. It was a pretty smooth operation! I was impressed.
Running-wise, it was a toughie. I hurt! It was nice to stop and take breaks whenever I wanted, though. We didn't push ourselves today. It was just a FUN FUN day! Full of laughs, too. That is one problem I've found with running with Joshua. It's very tough to laugh and run at Mile 11. No energy for that! The hilarity is too much!
Watching the speed skaters quickly became one of my favorite parts of the morning. SO COOL! I now have a dream to become a speed skater.
Josh made York peppermint patty brownie rice krispy treats for us. Yes, you read that correctly. HOLY COW, they were amazing!
Pictures!!! (Thanks to my RA friends for taking these! I did not take any of them.)
Joshua made me take selfies...ugh.
Susette!! Love her!!
So, if you're wondering why Joshua changed shirts, that's a funny story. It was fairly toasty inside the Oval, so we were all sweating. He decided to change his shirt during one of our breaks, so he grabbed his race shirt from his packet. Turns out, instead of a Men's XL, they gave him a WOMAN'S XL. It was SO hilarious. I about died! So on came the Cat Shirt.
So ya'll remember my waffle obsession, yes? Well, I brought along a WAFFLE for my fuel. But it was NASTY!
So the other day at the library, Allie brought me a stack of books she had picked, and one of them was called "Where Willy Went". It was about Willy the SPERM! Oh my gosh, I about died. We obviously didn't check it out, but my twisted RA friends wanted to see it, so I got it and brought it with me. Hilarious!! Nate and I read it last night and were laughing so hard. It's meant to teach children about the facts of life. I'll keep it in mind for when my kids are a bit older. :)
ANYWAY, more running. Around and around we went! "Channel your inner Becky!" "Channel your inner Kenyan!"
We got some fun pics of everyone.
ROBERT MERRIMAN!!!!! One of my top favorite people ever!
Janet!!! I'm sad we couldn't run together, but it was SO great to see her! LOVE this lady SO much!!!
The AWESOME London and Monte! They both ran a MARATHON!
My friends were all so sweet to ask how my shoulder and hip were doing. The shoulder felt GREAT, but the hip did NOT. Lame.
Monica let me pick out a neck gaiter. I love it! And yes, this was after the race, so getting into and out of this squat was PAINFUL!
The RKs!!! Thanks, Joshua! (That is his hand, not mine!)
We were pretty happy to be DONE! Such a fun time. I LOVE RUNNING!!!
Although, I am pretty sure I ran a bit more than 13 miles. The lap count was measured for the inner-most lane, and I spent the majority of my time in the middle and outer lanes. Extra mileage!!
Home Sweet Home.....and EXHAUSTED!! Enjoying my goodies from the day: My medal, my RK's and a sweet gift from Joshua: A book by Elaine Dalton about her marathon experience and how we need a "Return to Virtue." Love it and can't wait to read it!
