Goodbye Village

Well, we moved down to Salem last weekend.  It was such a stressful weekend, but we're here now and settled in and actually loving it!  The kids love their new school and teachers, and we have my parents' basement to ourselves.  Cam has a group of boys to ride his bike to school with, and I get to go running with my dad in the mornings!  I wish we knew how long we will be here, but the job hunt goes on, and we keep waiting.

It was weird to clean the apartment and drive away.  We lived in the Village for almost 7 years!  But I was ready to go!  I miss a lot of things about life up there, but it was definitely time to move on.

We still don't know what the Lord has in store for us, but I have never doubted that He has been in control the whole time and knows what job is best and what location is best for our family.

Happy (ish) Ending

Annie was found!

On Monday, Nate decided to call the U Police Dept. just to check in with them.  It's a good thing he did, because they had found her!  The SLC Police had actually recovered her four days earlier.  We were really upset that nobody had called and told us.  So on Tuesday, Nate and I went to the SLC Police Dept downtown and paid an arm and a leg to release the car from the impound.  We were mad that we had to pay the impound fees when we didn't even know she was there for four days!  But we're going to get a letter from the U detective and hopefully get some of our money back.

Anyway, so then we drove out to the impound lot, which was probably one of the worst places I've ever been.  The people there were very kind, but overall, it just felt yucky and creepy and there were gates and fences and alarms everywhere.  It kind of made me sick to think of Annie sitting in there (I know she can't feel or think or whatever, but still....).  So Nate went out to the lot (they only let one of us go, I had to wait in the office), and he tried to start her, but couldn't.

Overall, she was in okay shape.  They stole our CD player (which didn't work anyway) and all of the plastic covering was torn off of the steering column.  The ignition was busted, too.  They had taken some loose change and an old cell phone, but had left all of our registration paperwork and our snow scraper (ha!).  They had opened (and apparently eaten) an OLD granola bar that Nate said has been in there for years (clean the car, honey!), so we joked that we hoped they would get sick from it.  The exterior/tires/windows were untouched, thank goodness.  BUT sadly, there was one thing that almost made me burst out in tears:  in the backseat was a pair of men's underwear.  EEWWW.  Eew, eew, eew.  Poor Annie!  What is wrong with people??!!

Nate tried to start it with a screwdriver, but couldn't, so we had to leave our baby behind and drive home.  I was SO upset.  I know she's just a car!  It's not like they had stolen and violated our child, but she's been with me for 14 years!  Luckily when we got home, things started looking up.  Nate spent a few hours on the phone with our insurance and Ken Garff Honda body shop.  They were AMAZING to work with.  I want to hug and kiss them all.  So Ken Garff Honda sent out a tow truck to pick her up (we would have had to pay more money if we didn't get her picked up within 24 hours).  They towed her to their body shop downtown.  We stopped by later that afternoon to give them the keys and sign some stuff, and the lady who worked there was a complete saint.  She promised us that they will fix Annie up, and that due to the "circumstances" she was found under, they are going to scrub her down and steam clean the interior for us.  I wanted to cry (happy tears this time).  There are kind, good people in the world after all!

The U detective said she was also going to head over to the body shop to "collect the evidence" (thank you....).  I hope they can find whoever did this.  A few days ago, the sweet Koreans who live below us had their Honda stolen, too!  So lame.

We aren't sure how long they will take to fix her up, but we are so glad to have her back in the family!  We love you, Annie!

Claire is 2!

We had a fun weekend celebrating Claire Elizabeth's birthday.  On Saturday, we had a build-a-bear party with the Wood cousins.  Each cousin got to choose, stuff and dress an animal.  It was really cool!  On Sunday, I baked cupcakes (Ashley decorated them all cute-like) and we had some more family and friends over.

We love you Claire Bear, Bee-yar, Cwaire, Clarence, Clairmont!

So fun to get these kids together again!  Crazy what a difference a year makes!  Eli, Coco, Claire, Sasha.

Biker Chick

Today was a nice, sunny day outside, so Nate and I shot some hoops while Roo rode her bike and scooter around.  We always like to take turns shooting 10 free-throws while the other keeps score and rebounds.  The very first time we did this, I got 8/10.  Since then, I usually average about 4/10.  Lame.

Anyway, Roo was riding her scooter, and I was watching how she could put both feet on the scooter and glide along for quite awhile.  I immediately thought, "That girl is ready to try a two-wheeler."

So Nate got out the tools and took off her training wheels.  She uses the same little bike that Cam used to ride.  It's perfect for kids because it keeps them really close to the ground.  They aren't scared of tipping over.  We told Allie that we would hold on to the back and be right with her, and she told us to leave her alone!!  She wanted to go by herself!  So we got her started, and Nate let go...and she took off!  Bam!  Just like that!  She can already push off and start by herself, too.  So proud of her!

By the way, right before all this, she asked me to tape some paper towels to her back as a cape.  Maybe that was just the magic she needed!!  Super Roo!!

It must Be Spring!

I can't believe we're in our SIXTH Spring here in the Village.

I can always tell when it rolls around because a few things never change:

1. We spent NO less than 6 hours a day outside.
2. We are all fried.
3. My house is a disaster (since I have/get to be outside with them).
4. We eat a lot of cold cereal (since I don't want to drag the kids inside to cook).
5. Baths.  Lots and LOTS of baths.
6. My kids sleep like rocks.
7. The tulips and daffodils are so beautiful that I can hardly stand it.
8. I get to plow through lots and lots of books (since I get/have to be outside all day).

Must be Spring!!

Someone thought dirt was tasty today...

But she doesn't want her picture taken!

All clean!!!

900 Court Egg Hunt 2013

Wow, we have been here for a LOT of these Court Easter Egg Hunts!!  They are so much fun though.  Claire is at a fun age, she totally got what to do.  I love watching my kids have fun.
