My friend, Nicol, and I were talking tonight, once again, about the importance of family journals. I have been slacking on this blog, so I'm hoping to start doing better at capturing our daily lives. Those little details that we will forget. So be prepared for the ramblings!
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year! We spent it in Salem with my parents and Steve & Andrea's family. On Wednesday afternoon, I drove the kids down, and we just relaxed, had pizza and the cousins played. Steve took Cam and Andrew to a BYU basketball game. Cam apparently ate an entire Cougar Tail (reeeally long maple bar) all by himself! I kept waiting for him to puke over the next few hours, haha! They had fun at the game, of course! BYU games are so fun! I hope I can go to a game with DeAnn again this season. That evening, Andrea and I ended up talking for a few hours, and it was just really great. I have never really felt close to her or Steve, and I felt like our relationship and friendship grew a lot. I'm so so grateful for that, because it's actually something I've been praying for. We talked about some things that I won't mention here, but then we spent a lot of time talking about the importance of maintaining an intense focus on Christ in our lives. We talked about the Book of Mormon and pride and vanity. We talked about how we have both recently decided to simplify our lives to keep Christ and our children as our focus. Facebook, politics, outward appearances, etc....so many things are capable of pulling even the most active member of the Church away from Christ. Those things aren't bad....but they can consume us if we aren't careful. It was just a really great conversation, and I loved talking about it all with Andrea. I felt uplifted and inspired. Those are the best conversations.
Nate drove down that night after work. On Thanksgiving morning, the kids played and the adults prepared food. We all had assignments. Steve did the turkey and stuffing, and it turned out perfectly! Nate and I were able to sneak away for a quick run together. I love running with him! Claire and Owen napped during Thanksgiving Dinner, so it was relaxing and SO delicious! Those candied yams are the best! My mom made homemade pumpkin pie, and I couldn't stop snacking on Andrea's (Pat's) rolls (that sort of looked like large sofas...!). We watched movies in the afternoon, and the cousins played nonstop. I retained my title as Foosball Champion. I don't know why or how I'm so good at it, but it makes me laugh. It's my hidden talent. Don't mess with me and my little plastic men.
Nate sadly had to drive back home that night so he could work today. Our kids all went to bed without much struggle, so I was grateful to not have to worry about that. On Friday morning, Andrea, Ella, Ivy and I drove to Spanish Fork to shop at My Sister's Closet. It opened at 10, but we got there at 9:30 to get a free necklace (first 50 customers!). It was pretty chilly, but the sweet store owner treated us all to hot chocolate! I LOVE this store! So we got our free necklace, and then we shoved ourselves into the tiny boutique for some steals! I got a cute wallet, some bracelets for $1, and a Downeast shirt for $3. Love it! When we got back, Steve and my mom took the older kids to the Dollar Store and to get ice cream. I love how kids are so easy to please! Then after the babies' napped, it was time to pack up and drive back up north. When we walked in the door, Nate had made our apartment spotless, all the Christmas decorations were out, the tree was up, Christmas music was playing, and he had my Pumpkin Roll scentsy going. Perfection! It was such a great surprise! Major points for Nate right there. The kids had a blast decorating the tree. Claire just keeps touching the lights and laughing. So cute!
More fun ahead for the weekend with Nate's family! I love the Holidays!
